In 2021, my son informed me he'd be hiking the PCT, solo. As his mom, my first concern was his safety and how much would be out of his control throughout this incredible 2,650 mile journey from Campo, California to the Canadian border. Snow, blisters, bears, water supply, wildfires, communication, elevation, my list of worries was long. After many motherly questions, to which he patiently answered each one, I asked, "What will you do about food?"

I am one of these moms who actually cooks dinner for my family every night.  Cooking is what I do for those I love. And, even though I knew nothing about how to make backpacking food, once I saw what he was planning on eating, I quickly figured it out. We purchased all kinds of ingredients and I began researching and testing the concept of cold soaking dry ingredient meals in case he ran out of propane. To his surprise, they actually tasted good.

For his first few resupply boxes, the meals I'd created were sent in ziploc bags. By the time he reached Big Bear City, mile 266, his resupply box had properly packaged meal pouches with logo, nutritional facts, and cooking instructions.

My family told me that I should start a business and call it, Mountain Mama Meals. So, he and his trail-mates became part of my research and development for what you see here on this site today.

Since then, Mtn. Mama Meals has had the honor of feeding thru-hikers on the CDT, the PCT, the OCT, the A.T, as well as CDF Firefighters and college students.
